Getting Lawson Craddock through the Tour de France. It was a really hard fight the whole day. It's also a victory of the team.

We really had a plan to stay out for the trouble all the time and it really worked out really well. So many people said he's done, he's over, he will never come back.

I am so happy to show all these guys who didn't believe me that I am still there, I am still alive. I think that's also what I took out of this accident: I was fighting my way back, and I am so proud.

Cyclingnews - Carnage on the cobbles as Porte crashes out, Uran loses time. It's a bike race and it goes on so, I tried to do my best for the whole team and keep the jersey.

The closer we got to the finish, the more I started believing and this result is a big disappointment for me. Maybe the race wasn't long enough for me really.

I have a good sprint after six hours and today it was only 3 hours 30 minutes. I tried to do my own sprint instead of waiting for him [Degenkolb] but next time, I will try again and try to beat him.

I was really aiming for that win in yellow and it didn't happen but that's how it goes. Overall, I kept the jersey and made a great race out of the stage and this is also something.

I was really happy with my shape and it's been special to wear the yellow jersey. I think we did a very good job.

I have to thank the team for their trust and support. This would have never been possible without my teammates. Our policy is to develop and improve young talents.

All resources and expertise are put into this and this is now paying off. We pay attention to all kind of details, from training to nutrition to equipment.

Everyone within this team contributes to this. It was a long day and it was a little bit more relaxed but with a really fast final.

I am happy I could take those three extra seconds in the bonus sprint. It was an open sprint with nobody in front so it was good to give it a try and take some seconds to make sure I am safe for the next stage.

Now, I can probably keep the jersey to Roubaix and overall it's been a nice week so far. Tomorrow is going to be flat but shorter than today and I think it is going to have the same outcome.

I feel like I can focus on Sunday and try to be up there and we will see what happens. My back's against the wall the whole time, but I'll keep trying.

Stage 7 finish line quotes. Cyclingnews - Groenewegen, Cavendish and Laporte talk about the final sprint. Groenewegen wins stage 7 in Chartres.

Cyclingnews - Van Avermaet retains yellow. But I felt that it improved every day. In the fourth stage, my timing was wrong, but I felt good.

Compared to last year, I feel more pressure now. This really gives a lot of confidence for the coming stages.

Stage 6 finish line quotes. Dan Martin wins on the Mur de Bretagne. Cyclingnews - Van Avermaet keeps yellow, Dumoulin and Bardet lose time.

He is good at picking the right moment. I think if you win a stage like this after attacking from that point then you are the strongest guy. We tried to do a good job and Richie tried to set a good tempo for himself and to try and take some seconds over the rest of the contenders.

I just hung in there as well as possible to maybe try to sprint but in the end, I had no power anymore. It was a super hard final climb and the tempo never slowed down.

But I am happy that I could stay up there and only a few guys could hold the tempo on the climb. Overall, it was a good day and I have another day in yellow to look forward to.

I was really relaxed all day and I was really looking forward to having a crack. Stage 5 finish line quotes. Sagan wins stage 5 in Quimper.

Cyclingnews - Green jersey tops Colbrelli in drag race sprint. Phil [Gilbert] went early and he is up there on the GC so I couldn't let him go and I had to ride by myself.

Then, I think I went a bit too early on the sprint. I thought the corner was closer to the finish and that's the thing that went wrong I think.

However, we gave it a try and we also didn't lose any time with Richie. The team did a perfect job to put us into position in the final.

It was a really demanding day for a lot of guys and I think the team did a great job all day. We spent a lot of energy but I think on these kind of days you can lose more time than on a mountain stage so it's better to do that.

I think we did great today so we will see how it goes tomorrow. Richeze's speedy lead-out earns him Zwift Rider of the Day. Cyclingnews - Quick-Step Floors rider delivers Gaviria to a second stage win.

Cyclingnews - 'I think the good stages are coming for me' says Gilbert. Cyclingnews - 'I think we can be pretty happy' Froome says of GC time gain.

Stage 3 finish line quotes. Cyclingnews - Greg Van Avermaet moves into yellow jersey. I think everybody did a good time trial and we were all working well together.

We knew that Team Sky would be the team to beat and we also knew that it would be close. We worked together and that's what team time trials are about.

We stayed together with eight guys for a long time and on this parcours, that was the key to winning the race.

It was a goal to get yellow in the first week. I have worn it one time already and it was an incredible feeling so, I am pretty happy to be in this position for a second time.

I will enjoy it tomorrow because for any rider it is a special feeling. I want to thank my teammates as without them, it wouldn't have happened.

Victory in the team time trial is one of the best feelings. The prize is shared between all of the team.

Everybody works hard, everybody does their homework and prepares well for day's like this and that means that the win is shared by everyone. For me, that is why day's like this are special.

As an ex-rider himself, Bernard will appreciate the need for fairness for each and every athlete. And at the current time, Chris is entitled to race.

At the moment, everything is going great. In both of my previous races California and Dauphine I came back at a really good level despite not having the ideal preparation.

Cyclingnews - Colombian on combining with Landa and Valverde in July. They have just over five minutes over the bunch with Movistar and FDJ sharing the pace setting duties.

A few Bahrain riders are near the front too. Still can't get over the fact that Quick-Step have won 71 races this season.

That number could stretch into the 80s given that we still have several weeks of racing to go. Instead they focus on young sprint talent and Classics and corner that market.

It's incredible in terms off their results. At one point in September they'd average a win every four days since the start of the year.

We mentioned EF earlier, and they're on just six wins for the entire season. That's not a slight on the American team but it puts into context what Quick-Step are doing right now.

While some of the riders head back to the team cars to pick up bottles and instructions, why not listen to our latest podcast.

It features an exclusive interview with Heinrich Haussler. At times incredibly personal, the Australian talks about leaving his family at the age of 14 and heading to Germany, where he didn't know the language and was rejected by schools.

He eventually found his feet, and the rest is history - and also covered in this podcast. EF also come with a strong squad, with Woods and Uran leading the line.

They've combined well in recent weeks but haven't taken a win in trade team colours. We get a brief shot of Adam Yates.

Many tipped him for a result in the Italian one-day races but he's not delivered yet. A poor Worlds, and not his best form have seen him tail off but Lombardia is a race that suits him.

Mitchelton have form here to, having won the race with Chaves in They've come here with a formidable team as well.

The gap is still holding at around five minutes as we see Nibali drop back for a moment. There's a slight lull in the bunch but that will change as reach the foot of the climb in a few minutes.

They're on 71 for the season with Hodeg coming out on top today. Here's our report , and results are soon to follow.

Michael Storer is the youngest in the break at just He came through the ranks as part of Mitchelton Scott's development team but was snapped up by Sunweb at the start of this season.

Anyway, this is a nice little cameo for Storer today who splits his time between Varese and Perth. The leaders are working well together with Marcato taking a long pull on the flat.

The year-old won Paris Tours back in and is a respected domestique. We've covered 80km so far and the bunch are just holding the break at an even five minutes.

We've seen Movistar sit back a little and a few more teams post riders on the front in a bid to keep the break in check.

On Friday we compiled a list of riders who needed a result in order to save their seasons. What do you think? The leaders pass the summit and head down the rather technical descent.

Movistar then lead the bunch over the climb 5'42 down on the leading eight riders. There's Valverde, tucked in behind his Movistar teammates, near the front of the peloton.

The pace has settled down now, as the leaders push their advantage out to 6 minutes. Onto the Colle Gallo and the lead is up to 5' Back in the bunch it's FDJ and Movistar who are among the teams chasing.

I say chasing, they're really just tapping out a nice steady tempo in order to keep the break in check. Finally, the bunch have eased up enough and allowed the break to increase their advantage.

It isn't huge but it's at least start to move out towards five minutes. At the moment the gap is at 3'45 and the leaders are:.

We're about 15km from the Colle Gallo, the first major ascent of the race. At that point we'll know if the early break has established a healthy enough lead but at the moment they're having to fight for every second out on the road.

The gap is only at around 1'20, so the bunch haven't entirely given up. That's mainly because a number of teams have missed the breaks, so they've been ordered to the front to set a fast tempo.

It's going to be a really long day for the riders who are already suffering out there. Our lead group have an advantage that's approaching a minute.

This certainly looks promising, while the chase has gone out of the peloton. This is the point at which the break need to ram home their advantage.

That's a decent little move with some quality firepower. We've covered almost 30km now with the leaders forming and dropping a couple from their number to create the above group.

Two groups have now managed to skip clear, and Quick-Step have posted a man in the second group, so this could be the early move of the day.

We have two riders, followed by a group of around The peloton haven't eased off just yet so it could all come back together in the next few minutes.

Just under 20km covered so far. His race is unfortunately over. At the moment it's Quick-Step Floors who are marking and chasing down several moves.

The pace remains high as we wait for the elastic to snap and the early move to go clear. Typically you get quite a large early break in this race before the situation settles down for a few hours.

In the race, we've raced through the first 10km of action. Nothing major to report, except that two riders have abandoned.

How Katusha could have done with Rodriguez this year. They signed Kittel but they've never really replaced the Spaniard - who retired a couple of seasons ago but was a threat in virtually every race he entered.

Ah, Valverde is here too. No doubt another favourite for the race. The world champion took exception to questions from CN last week when he was asked about his past and Operacion Puerto.

He labeled those that asked about the case as 'clueless'. Clueless by the way came out in , just after Valverde's 35th birthday. And here's the story with Valverde's quotes.

Another strong team for today are FDJ. Pinot is certainly one of the favourites after his win earlier in the week and he's backed up by a motivated and hungry team.

Roy is set to retire this year too, so they'll want to go out with a bang for their veteran rider.

Roy has been with FDJ his entire career, and has a reputation as being one of the most loyal and trusted domestiques in the bunch.

And that was Cofidis' last Tour de France stage win. Chavanel was at Cofidis at the time. That's why it's interesting.

Speaking of Nibali - just five minutes before we roll out by the way - he's in the press and talking up a possible move to Team Sky.

Some background for our dear readers who have woken up early for this Nibali was set to sign a deal with Bahrain earlier in the summer.

It was going to be a contract extension as he already has a deal in place for Now, that deal was never signed, hence this talk about a possible move for It seems unlikely however.

Anyway, it looks as though Nibali is putting these comments out there in a bid to get a better contract from Bahrain. Can you really see Team Sky hiring a 34 year old when they already have Froome and Thomas, and young riders coming through?

Can you really see Nibali moving to Team Sky, and away from a team where he is still the undisputed number one? Here's the story on Nibali from yesterday.

There are some absolutely stacked squads on the startlist this morning. Take a look at Nibali's team for example. They have to start among the favourites for the race.

Nibali knows how to win, his form is getting better and better, and he won Milan-San Remo earlier in the year. He would love nothing more than to bookend his season with another Classic title.

I feel really confident and I'm looking forward to this race. The shape is good. The world championships were only two weeks ago.

I think we have a strong team here and we are well motivated," Moscon said. The crucial point is the same and who has the legs is the most important point.

Ellis Bacon has pulled together this wonderful preview ahead of today's race. Nibali, the defending champion, has just signed on to huge cheers from the home crowds and over by the other side of the sign-on area Stephen Farrand is talking to Gianni Moscon from Team Sky.

Let's have a listen to what Mr Moscon has to say. Riders are busily signing on at the moment, so now's a good chance to memorise the start list.

The race is stacked with stage races and one day specialists - a trait that only Monuments like Lombardia can bring together.

Here's the start list. Welcome to the start of the final monument of the season. We're in Italy, the sun is out, we're about to head out for Il Lombardia, and bring the curtain down on the European road season.

We'll have live coverage throughout the race, with views from yours truly and Stephen Farrand, who will be joining us a little later today.

What a first season this young rider has had! Somehow he is able to jump and get away! He is holding the gap steady at around 30 seconds.

And Pinot takes off!

Brico Cross at Eeklo. Women's Vuelta Madrid Challenge. In the end they brought him back and he used to much in the break to still then get a result.

I was happy to make the break today, it was a hard stage and we learned a lot and we will keep on fighting to make a better result with the team.

I felt better than yesterday and although it was hard to make the breakaway, I was happy to be in it. I think the final climb was just a little bit too hard again and with the energy I have already spent this week, it was hard to keep up with the good guys.

I tried to set as good a tempo as possible and then tried to come back in the descent. However, the strongest guys were already gone and that was a bit of a pity.

But, that's how racing goes. The second part of the Tour has been pretty good for me. I have been trying and have had a couple of good finishes and been in the breakaway.

I think I am in good shape but you also have to have a parcours that fits your style and with the energy I have had to spend, maybe I missed something in the end to really go for the win.

But, I think the rest day will be good for me and hopefully, I can recharge a bit and get another chance. The crash was of no fault of his own and seemed a very pointless crash as well.

He has come down quite hard on his right elbow and fractured the olecranon process of the right elbow. It's actually an injury he has had on the left side before and it is something that requires surgery to fix.

We are already making arrangements for him to have surgery in Antwerp and he will be back on the trainer pretty soon after that surgery, but obviously we are all very disappointed about the crash.

It was a long day and always up and down. In the end, I knew already that I didn't have the legs to go for the victory or a nice result.

I just rode my tempo because it was a super hard day and it has been a super hard week. I have good legs but they are not so fresh anymore. We tried at the front but I have to say that we knew that Alaphilippe was one of the big favorites for this kind of finish and that it would be really hard for Stuyven on the last climb.

If you see how steep it was, I think you could have had even two minutes and it would still have been hard to stay in front. So, we did our job and no more than that as we don't want to give the victory away.

Late puncture costly for Dan Martin at Mende. Fraile wins in Mende. Cyclingnews - No changes to the top of the general classification after a long day in Massif Central.

In the end, we went really fast in the first 10km of the stage and with crosswinds it was really chaotic. Then, me, Stefan and Greg were able to make it into the big breakaway.

So, for me, it was like a TT because I went full gas from the bottom to the finish and in the end, I was fifth but I was hoping for a podium finish maybe.

The goal now will be to try again in the next few days. I am feeling really good. I worked hard to be ready for this race and today, I was able to show once again that my condition is good and I will keep trying.

So, for me, today was a long day. But in the last 5km, I refocused and thought, well I try and suffer a little. I stayed with the group and never overpaced myself.

Once I crested the top, I attacked and tried to bridge to the front, but it was just not enough. I am happy with my legs, but I really wanted to win in the end.

Stage 13 finish line quotes. Peter Sagan wins stage 13 bunch sprint in Valence. Cyclingnews - World champion surges past Kristoff and Demare.

It was great to see Michi in a breakaway and winning the Most Combative Rider prize. I am really happy for him that he is on the podium. He fully deserves it after a lot of hard work in the first week.

We also saw how strong he is as he could stay in front of the peloton for a long time. In the end, I just gave it a try. It was an uphill finish and I'm pretty good at those so I was happy that I could get in position and keep it to the line.

It is always good to go with the race. We had a good first week and I think now it will be about continuing to try to make results and be at the front like Michi did today.

I'm so happy to have won, it was something very good for me, personally. Once again, I have to thank my teammates for their dedication and work.

It was a flat stage after the tough mountains, so everybody recovered a little bit in the group. I think they all seemed happy to stay in the bunch and go through a more relaxed stage.

My timing in the sprint might now seem perfect but I think I was probably a little bit late. I was a bit behind with meters to go and on the last climb, I tried to bring myself to the front.

I then stayed on the wheel of Kristoff and I'm very happy to have beaten them. However, the Tour de France is far from over. Vincenzo Nibali transported to hospital after crash on Alpe d'Huez.

Stage 12 finish line quotes. Cyclingnews - Geraint Thomas continues his run in yellow with victory on Alpe d'Huez. Thomas wins atop Alpe d'Huez.

Cyclingnews - Maillot Jaune triumphs, Nibali crashes. Just like we planned, he did his best to get into the good breakaway but unfortunately, there were really strong guys in there including some of those on GC like Valverde and Kruijswijk for the most part.

He tried to anticipate these guys alongside six or seven other riders in order to see if it was possible to go away without a GC leader but it didn't happen.

When we started the Croix de Fer, he rode his own tempo to save some energy as fighting with the GC riders at the front was almost impossible.

Behind, the other guys were good and kept a good tempo to be safely within the time limit and that was also a priority of the day.

I had nothing left in my legs and just wanted to make the finish line in the best time possible. I felt really good in the first climb of the day, but then general fatigue set in.

Stage 11 finish line quotes. Cyclingnews - Thomas, Froome say is a perfect position. Geraint Thomas wins stage 11 at La Rosiere, takes yellow.

Cyclingnews - Race explodes in second Alpine stage. I was in the virtual yellow jersey for a while, as I was last year, so I guess I can add another jersey to my virtual closet now.

No but it was good to be up there again and also picked up some more King of the Mountains points so maybe that can become an objective.

There is a ray of sunlight with Serge, who is having a great tour, being in the front and fighting for stages, and having the virtual yellow shows how consistent he has been in the two mountain stages.

On the penultimate climb, there was a moment when I suffered a lot but then I recovered and I started in pursuit. I would like to try again but now we have to focus on Vincenzo because now he is really ahead in the overall and me and my teammates are here at the Tour to help him the much as possible.

Stage 10 finish line quotes. Cyclingnews - Alaphilippe delighted, Van Avermaet gets one more day in yellow. Alaphilippe wins in Le Grand Bornand.

Cyclingnews - Van Avermaet extends overall lead. I was waiting to find the right moment and when the big move went, I decided to give it a go and see how Team Sky reacted and they didn't.

I had to ride really hard to catch the breakaway but once I was there, and we directly took six to seven minutes, I knew it could be a good day for me.

Taking a stage in the Tour de France has always been a dream and turning it into reality feels extraordinary. It was a hard day, especially in the last 30 kilometers, when I was alone, but that makes this moment even more special and beautiful.

It was really painful as he went down hard on his shoulder. We waited almost more five minutes and then the decision was made to take him to the hospital.

We left two guys waiting behind, Michael Schär and Simon Gerrans, and they were able to come back at which point we said let's go for the stage win with Greg.

We're obviously really disappointed today and frustrated about all the hard work we have put in until now.

There was even no time to fight today because after 7km, Richie was involved in that crash. Of course, the bunch was really nervous and it happened just passing through a village.

He crashed with all the team around him so we cannot say that he wasn't there. Once again, we will try to keep looking forward to the end of the Tour and try to take some stages if it's possible as the GC and podium is gone.

I have been through a lot of things in the past, and it was such a hard time. I want to dedicate this victory to one of my best friends who passed away last winter.

This was really something for him because I said no, I am not done. I have to make at least one really big victory him, he was like my second father.

It's so great now to be on the highest level again. There's no way to make it more dramatic, more fantastic, than winning a stage like today.

We can be satisfied with what we achieved.

We have worked really hard for this. It was about fighting for a good position all day.
